From a research by the Brazilian Agricultural Company – EMBRAPA and the Federal University of Paraíba – UFPB colored cotton was created, a silver bullet in terms of raw material for the textile industry. Cotton fiber colored in nature gives rise to colored fabric, from beige to red and, more recently, from green to ruby. It is impossible to leave Joao Pessoa without taking along at least one piece of the so-called ecological cotton. It is with this cotton  that, in addition to clothing, bags and accessories, beautiful handmade pieces are made. Available at the well stocked Mercado de Artesanato Paraibano – MAP, along with lace and pieces of colored cotton, they are paired with original works in ceramics, wood, leather and straw.

Also at MAP, there are very good “cachaças paraibanas”, regional articles and the traditional Northeastern hammocks.

On the same street, you’ll find the store Koisas do Sertão, where there are typical products of the Northeast such as jerked meat, cheese, the clarified butter and sweets, including “alfenim”, almost pure sugar, and “sorda”, a biscuit made of wheat flour, brown sugar honey, cloves, cinnamon and ginger.
